Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an error, a fault, and a failure?

An error is a human action that produces an incorrect result. A fault (defect) is a flaw in a component or system that can cause it to fail. A failure is a deviation of the component or system from its expected delivery, service or result. Errors may lead to faults in the software, and faults may cause failures when the code executes.
